Mission Statement:

The mission to increase access to culturally sensitive, language appropriate and accessible Sustance Use Disorder (SUD)/Mental Health (MH) treatment/recovery services for persons who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind or Hard of Hearing and to reduce communication, language, cultural, and other barriers to such services.

What is this program about?

IndependenceFirst Wisconsin Statewide SUD/MH Project Services that seeks to improve SUD/MH services for persons who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind or Hard of Hearing.  The Substance Use/Mental Health Statewide Project Coordinator does not provide one-on-one counseling; however, the Project Coordinator can help people from the targeted population to connect with needed residential or outpatient treatment, mutual support/recovery groups (such as Alcoholics, Cocacine or Narcotics Anonymous support groups).  In addition, the Project Coordinator provides education, prevention and technical assistance to professionals and people in the field of Substance Use/Mental Health servcies about the needs of this population.  The project is adminstered by the Wisconsin Coalition of Independent Living Centers and IndependenceFirst.
